On March 5, 2019, at approximately 1:40 am, Portage la Prairie RCMP attended a local business to arrest Mateo Roulette, 20, of Portage, on outstanding warrants for Assault, Theft Under $5000, and Failure to Comply with a Recognizance. When officers arrived, Roulette attempted to flee the premises. Officers told Roulette he was under arrest and ordered him to stop, but he started to run and drop items from a backpack he was carrying. He was with a female, 32, of Portage, who attempted to assist him with his escape.

Officers were able to get Roulette under arrest. While running from police, Roulette discarded a loaded firearm. Police immediately retrieved the firearm. In Roulette’s backpack, police found a machete, a prohibited firearm, various ammunition, prescription drugs that did not belong to him, and multiple cellular phones. When he was searched, officers found more ammunition on his person.

Roulette is charged with Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose as well as several related firearm charges. He is also facing charges of Resist Arrest and multiple Failure to Comply charges. He remains in custody.

The female was arrested and will be charged with Obstruction as well as Possession of a Controlled Substance for a baggie of powder believed to be methamphetamine. She has been released on a Promise to Appear.
