Sask supporting Legion branches

In 2019-20, the Government of Saskatchewan is providing $100,000 for a new program to support the important work of veteran service clubs across the province.

“Veterans are important to our province,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Gene Makowsky said. “Through the Saskatchewan Veterans Service Club Support Program, we will honour the memory of fallen heroes and provide support to sustain Saskatchewan veteran service clubs, not only for veterans, but for their families and communities.”

This program will be delivered in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command and the Army, Navy, Air Force Veterans (ANAVETS), Saskatchewan Provincial Command.

Registered, non-profit veteran service clubs, Legion branches and ANAVETS units based in Saskatchewan are eligible to apply for grants up to $5,000. Applications will be accepted from May 23 to July 15, 2019.

“We thank the provincial government for providing this grant,” Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command President Lorne Varga said. “This will definitely impact our ability to continue to serve our veterans and their families.”

“The Saskatchewan Veteran Service Club Support Program is much appreciated by the ANAVETS units in our province,” ANAVETS Saskatchewan Provincial Command President Alf Christensen said. “This program will be an important part of keeping the veterans service clubs functioning and will be a great help.”

This program will provide grants toward facility improvement projects, upgrades, renovations and repairs to support community access to programming, meetings and events. Grant money can also be used toward special events, programs and activities that engage the public and advance the work of veterans’ service organizations.
