In August 2018, the Saskatoon Police Service investigated the theft of an RCMP-issued firearm and its ammunition from inside an unmarked RCMP vehicle parked in Saskatoon.

During its investigation, Saskatoon Police Service was able to recover the stolen firearm and ammunition and return them to the Saskatchewan RCMP.

Following the theft, the RCMP officer responsible for the firearm was placed on administrative duties and an internal RCMP Code of Conduct investigation was initiated.

As a result of the conduct investigation, corrective measures were imposed on the officer.

Since then, the officer has returned to operational duties.

The Saskatoon Police Service also investigated the circumstances surrounding the storage of the firearm and laid charges against the officer.

RCMP Constable Shannon Drall was charged with Unsafe Storage of a Restricted Firearm contravening Section 6 of the Storage, Display, Transportation and Handling of Firearms by Individuals Regulations, contrary to Section 86(2) of the Canadian Criminal Code.

Constable Drall is appearing in Saskatoon Provincial Court today.
