Three major events in the region this weekend

Three western themed events are coming up this weekend in the region. The Spy Hill Sports Days, Whitewood Chacachas Rodeo, and McAuley Hoedown are all set for the weekend.

Spy Hill Sports Days
The Spy Hill Sports Days includes chariot and chuckwagon races, barrel racing, team roping, an antique tractor pull, slo pitch and more.

Saturday’s events at Spy Hill include barrel racing from 9 am to 1 pm, team roping from 1-4 pm, an antique tractor pull at 1 pm, Mutton Bustin’ at 4:30, a pulled pork supper at 4:30, chariot and chuckwagon races at 5 pm, and after dark there’s entertainment by Amy Fuhr in the beer gardens and a kids movie.

Sunday’s events include barrel racing from 9 am to 1 pm, Team Roping from 1-4 pm, an Antique Tractor Pull at 1 pm, Mutton Bustin’ and a chicken supper at 4 pm, and chariot and chuckwagon races starting at 4 pm. See the ad on page 9 for more weekend details

Whitewood Chacachas Rodeo
The 20th annual Whitewood Chacachas Rodeo is coming up this Friday and Saturday, August 9 and 10.

Friday features a Kids and Youth Rodeo starting at 10 am, the main event CCA/MRCA Rodeo at 7 pm, and Mutton Bustin’ during rodeo intermission on Friday night.

Saturday’s lineup starts with a pancake breakfast at 8 am, a car show and shine at 11 am, sponsored by Whitewood Dodge, a farmers’ market and craft show beginning at noon, and the main event CCA/MRCA Rodeo Saturday night at 7 pm. There will be wild pony races during rodeo intermission Saturday night.

2018 Manitoba Country Music Association Roots Artist of the Year, the Quinton Blair Band, will perform 10 pm to 2 am at the Beer Gardens.

McAuley Hoedown
This weekend will be the biggest weekend of the summer in the community of McAuley, Manitoba.

This Friday and Saturday, August 9 and 10, will be the annual McAuley Hoedown.

The weekend kicks off with a ranch rodeo at 7:30 pm Friday, followed by a social featuring the Old Bones Buffalo Band (and you know you have crossed the Manitoba line when it isn’t a cabaret, it’s a social!)

There will be beer gardens all weekend.

The RM of Ellice-Archie will host a pancake breakfast from 9 am to 11 am to kick off Saturday’s events.

There will be a kids area set up all day Saturday.

The McAuley Fire Department will host a barbecue lunch from 12 noon to 3 pm Saturday, and the McAuley Country Cafe will be putting on a supper from 5:30 -7 pm. There will also be a pie action at 7 pm.

The ranch rodeo starts at 8 pm Saturday, and the weekend will wrap up with a DJ and live music from 6 pm to midnight.
