Charges for Impaired driving causing death near Estevan

On Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 10:10 p.m. the Estevan RCMP and emergency services responded to a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway #18 and #39 west of Bienfait, SK.

A west bound SUV collided with a south bound car at the intersection.

The male driver of the car, 35-year-old Bisho Kalappurakkal of Estevan, SK. was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 28-year-old male passenger in the car was also injured and transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The 59-year-old female driver of the SUV, Debra Hamman of Bienfait, SK. has been charged with the following offences;

· One count of Impaired Driving Causing Death, Section 255(3) of the Criminal Code

· One Count of Drive While Over .08 causing Death, Section 255(3.1) of the Criminal Code

· One Count of Dangerous Driving Causing Death, Section 249(4) of the Criminal Code

Hamman's next court appearance is August 14, 2017 at 09:30 a.m. in Estevan Provincial Court.
