Last year, Moosomin’s Bethel United Church held a unique fundraiser for its restoration project.

The local Ukrainian community cooked perogies, cabbage rolls and sausage, and the Poltava Dancers put on an amazing show of traditional dance and music.

Tickets were sold out weeks before the event.

Organizers heard so many positive comments following the show, and had so many people asking if they would bring the dancers back, that they decided to run a second Ukrainian Gala.

The second annual event is set for Friday, November 17 at the Conexus Centre in Moosomin.

Organizers expect the 320 tickets for the event to go quickly.

Proceeds from the Ukrainian Gala will go to restoration work at Bethel United Church.

The church was built as Moosomin Methodist Church in 1889, and became Bethel United Church when the United Church of Canada was formed in 1925.

In 2015, the church board decided to embark on a $150,000 restoration project.

The tower on the building has been redesigned, strengthened and restored, windows have been replaced, and stained glass windows are currently undergoing restoration.

Tickets for the Ukrainian Gala are available at the World-Spectator and at Conexus Credit Union in Moosomin, or by phoning Shirley Lindsay at 306-434-7085 or Darlene Thomson at 306-434-8546.
