Saskatchewan unemployment drops

Saskatchewan’s unemployment rate in September was 6.2 per cent (seasonally adjusted), down from 6.4 per cent a month ago and 6.9 per cent from September 2016.

“Recent economic indicators showed that Saskatchewan is leading the nation in growth in wholesale trade and manufacturing sales, as well as having the second-highest retail sales growth rate, and we are beginning to see the effects of that in our economy,” Economy Minister Steven Bonk said. “What is encouraging about today’s job numbers is that unemployment rates are down both month-to-month and year-over-year, and that full-time jobs increased over last year.”

There were 1,600 full-time jobs created in Saskatchewan year-over-year, while part-time employment decreased by 3,000 for a net employment decline of 1,400.

Nationally, the unemployment rate in September was 6.2 per cent.
