More than 400 motorists were ticketed last week during a traffic safety blitz focusing on cellphone and seatbelt use while driving.
Operation Hang Up, Buckle Up took place June 19 and 20 across the province. These efforts resulted in a total of 412 tickets, including:
• 30 cellphone violations
• 95 seatbelt violations
• 124 for speeding
• 38 for disobeying stop lights/signs
• 125 various other infractions
One person also faces drug-related charges arising from the seizure of 15.5 pounds of marijuana and six ounces of cocaine from his vehicle. Law enforcement had initially pulled the vehicle over for speeding during the STEP event in Kindersley. Of the 412 tickets issued, 178 resulted from STEP.
Last month’s province-wide blitz, Operation Overdrive, targeted impaired driving and resulted in a total of 356 tickets.
