Lois Tanner passed away peacefully at Cypress House Care Home in Swift Current, Sask. on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at the age of 91.

Lois was predeceased by her parents, her husband Ralph Tanner, all four of Ralph’s siblings and their spouses, and her nephew Greg Tanner.

She is survived by her daughter Erica (Patrick) Ewert, and her three grandsons, Tanner, Evan and Reid, her brother Kent (Karen) Webster, and many nieces and nephews.

Born on May 10, 1931, Lois Ann Webster grew up on Forelands farm in the Two Creeks district of southwestern Manitoba.

After completing her education, Lois worked for a few years as both a teacher and a healthcare aide before marrying Ralph Tanner on October 8, 1956.

She and Ralph made Moosomin home and Lois lived there until these last three years when she moved to Swift Current to be closer to her daughter’s family.

She began married life working for her uncle in Wright’s Pharmacy for many years until her daughter, Erica, was born in 1971.

When Erica was in the primary grades, Lois took the position of librarian in the local High School until her first retirement.

Lois always had a strong work ethic and did not like to be idle, so she then took a seasonal position at the Sask./Man. border tourist information center.

She loved meeting and visiting with people, so after her second retirement, began work at the local Co-op, as the sample clerk.

Finally, well into her 80’s, she retired for the third and final time!

Three of the most important things to Lois were family, church, and community.

After the arrival of her three grandsons, she made many trips to their home in Swift Current. Nana’s visits were a highlight, as she always brought a pail of homemade cookies and took the boys out for breakfast.

Great memories were also made when she accompanied her family on numerous trips over the years.

Lois had a strong faith, and she supported her church in many ways. She was the treasurer and sat on the Vestry for many years, occasionally sang in the choir, and in later years, acted as a lay minister.

Lois believed community involvement was important. Lois spent many years on the Music Festival and Library boards, held many levels of office in the local chapter of the Royal Purple (Elks), and volunteered in many other community endeavors.

Being raised on a farm, Lois always had a love for the land. She enjoyed going for car rides in the country and would “farm” along the way from the window on any trips she made. Lois knew all the crops and liked to keep up on the season’s progress.

In the summers, she could often be seen working in her veggie patch or her many well curated flower beds. Even last year, when she lived in her own apartment, she was praised for her huge tomatoes!

She enjoyed reading newspapers and was always up on the latest headlines. Cheering on the Riders, and following her favorite curling teams in the winter, were also pastimes for her.

Her funeral will be held at St. Alban’s Anglican Church in Moosomin, Sask. at 11:30 am on Friday, July 29. All are welcome, and lunch will be served after.

There will be a private interment preceding the service.

If desired, donations can be made to the Moosomin & District Healthcare Foundation.

Arrangements through Warren’s Funeral Home, Swift Current.
