We are celebrating the life of Cecil (Sheik) Holloway, our loving husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle, brother, brother-in-law and friend.
Cecil was born on October 27, 1928 in Wapella, Saskatchewan to Alexander and Dorothy Holloway. He was a twin to Leeson (Leek). Sheik and Leek were one set of three sets of twins born into the Holloway family.

Sheik took pride in his community and remained in Wapella for 92 years. The last two years of his life were spent in a new home in Moosomin, Saskatchewan, followed by his last four months at the Moosomin Long Term Care Centre.

Sheik was active in numerous activities and excelled in his love for hockey. He was well known as one of the five brothers who played for the Wapella Blackhawks.

They were proud winners of the South Saskatchewan Intermediate “B” Championship in 1953 and captured the Provincial Intermediate “B” Championship in 1954.

He continued on with coaching many years of minor hockey in Wapella and enjoyed spending long periods at the rink with his two children.

Sheik had a passion for his family and spent many hours visiting his mother, sisters and brothers in the home that they were all born and raised in. The stories, laughter and love was abundant.

He enjoyed long drives with his family and could often be seen jumping into a truck with his brothers and friends to head out looking for wildlife.
Cecil married the love of his life, Cheryl (Bernard) Holloway from Wapella on October 14, 1961. Two children joined the family. Son—Perry Holloway (Rae Robstad) and sons Colby and Jesse. Daughter—Barb Holloway (Brent Valstar) and daughters Kali and Shae.

Sheik adored, loved and was so proud of his wife, children and grandchildren’s accomplishments.

He made every attempt to join activities such as weddings, births, baptisms, sporting events, graduations, and birthdays. He so loved being around the younger group of adults and family.

Sheik joined his family on vacations to Florida, Arizona, Hawaii, Mexico, and Vancouver/Victoria, British Columbia. There was plenty of laughs, excitement, adventure and love.

Cecil’s employment history consisted of many odd jobs with long-term periods of working on the pipelines. Lastly with his wife, they became the owners/operators of Holloway’s Hardware in Wapella, Saskatchewan.

Pre and post retirement activities included time at the cabin in Round Lake. Fishing was his passion. Many days were spent out on the lake with friends, nephews, and grandkids—summer and winter. He also loved his garden and took much pride in keeping his yard and hedges in tip-top shape.
Sheik joined and assisted with the implementation and facilitation of the Wapella Pipestone Wildlife Federation for the past 34 years. Sheik’s membership was active up until the day of his passing and he was proud of his “Senior Director” title.

Sheik was a humble man and enjoyed the important things in life. Family was always number one. This has left a legacy of a close family who looks out for each other just like he and his own brothers and sisters did.

Cecil is predeceased by his mother Dorothy and father Alexander; brothers Ernie, John, Glen (Ruth), George (Helene), Fred (Peggy and Georgina), and Leeson (Pat); sisters Lillian, Marjorie, Esther (Les) and Dorothy (Ernie); and brothers-in-law Larry Knuttila and Frank Van Hee.

He is survived by son Perry (Rae), sons Colby and Jesse, as well as daughter Barb (Brent) and daughters Kali and Shae; brother Harvey (Dawn); sister Margaret; sisters-in-law Barb Knuttila (Harry), Karen Holloway, Jayne McDonald and Maggie MacPherson, brothers-in-law Gordon MacPherson (Brenda) and Colin MacPherson (Karen) and many nieces, nephews and close friends.

A graveside service will be held at a later date, followed by a gathering to celebrate Cecil’s life.

Donations in memory of Cecil can be made to the Wapella Memorial Rink (Town of Wapella), Moosomin Long Term Care Centre-Recreation Department, or the Wapella Pipestone Wildlife Federation (Box 8, Wapella, Sask.)

“I loved, lived and believed. For that I ask you do not grieve. My life was immensely blessed, but now it’s time for me to rest.”
