After a brief illness, Gerald passed away peacefully at Concordia Hospital on February 3, 2024.
He was born on June 16, 1929 and is predeceased by his father Robert, and mother Elizabeth.
He is survived by his sister Helen Lipsey of Winnipeg.
Gerald was raised in Maryfield, Saskatchewan where he helped his parents manage the town hardware store.
Following the passing of his father, he continued to support his mother in operating the Maryfield Hardware Store.
Gerald took pride in supporting the business community by operating the town movie theatre, organizing Saturday night dances and helping to support local sports teams for many years.
From a very young age Gerald loved trains. He was known to have memorized train schedules for all of the main train companies in North America.
In 1990 he moved to Winnipeg to join his mother and served as her caregiver until her passing in 1996.
He will be missed by his friends and his neighbours from Shalom Gardens, the members of the Harrow United Church, and the many cousins with whom he faithfully communicated.
A celebration of life was held on February 15 at Harrow United Church.
Gerald’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories.
