Marilyn Paul passed away peacefully on March 7, 2024 at the age of 83. She was surrounded by family in the Moosomin Hospital where she ended her battle with leukemia. Marilyn loved God all of her life and was ready to be with Him. She is now free of pain and is resting with her Lord.
Marilyn was born on December 11, 1940 in Wadena, Sask. to the late Helen (McMahon) and Hugh Nichol. She was the oldest of six children, the late Ruth Schneider and the late Jim Nichol and surviving Glen (Carol) Nichol, sister-in-law Karen Nichol, Sharon (Paul) Schauerte and Lorraine Nichol of Regina.
Her childhood homes were in Flin Flon, Manitoba; Midnapore, Alberta; and Lintlaw, Saskatchewan. Marilyn spoke fondly of her family and her keenest childhood memories were playing war with cow patties in the pasture, galloping their imaginary horses over the grass or making paper dolls cut from Eaton’s catalogue with her brother, Glen.
On October 27, 1962 she married Frank Paul at Vibank, Sask. They met at a community dance and spent much of their married years attending old-time dances and fiddle fests.
They raised two girls on their farm near Moosomin where Marilyn could enjoy nature and watch the sunrise every morning during her devotions and prayer time.
She never hesitated to take a holiday to see new places, learn about history and take pictures of the beautiful scenery. She said more than once that she never regretted taking time to travel.
When she was 15 years old, Marilyn moved to Sacred Heart Academy boarding school where she completed high school and then to Regina Teacher's College in Regina, Sask. She had a fulfilling career of teaching. Marilyn loved her students and enjoyed much laughter with her fellow staff members, holding those friendships close to her even after she retired.
She also enjoyed visiting neighboring farm friends, with many weekend nights spent playing cards and visiting. She was always involved in her church and did not hesitate to help in whatever capacity was needed as she loved her church family dearly.
Writing was also a passion for Marilyn. Her words impacted many through letters, church homilies, short stories and meaningful poems.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Frank, as well as her children Pam (the late Cam) Hutchinson and Melanie (Bill) Driedger. She leaves behind eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one brother, two sisters, many in-laws, nieces and nephews, all of whom she deeply loved. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandparent, sister, aunt and friend who was always there when needed.
Marilyn's funeral will be held on Saturday, May 11 at 11 am with a luncheon to follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Moosomin, Sask. Her ashes will be buried at Cupar Cemetery near Cupar, Sask. on the following day, May 12.
She believed in celebrating good times and standing together during hard times, so we invite you to come celebrate her life with us.
Frank, Pam, Melanie and families would like to express heartfelt thanks for the love and support we have received from friends and community.
Thank you to the staff at Moosomin Hospital. Marilyn constantly commented on the excellent care she received from the kind, gentle nurses every time she was there.
Thank you also to Alternatives Funeral & Cremation Services of Regina, Sask. for their compassionate care, support and service at this time.
Marilyn loved her church, so in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marilyn’s name to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Moosomin or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
