A celebration of Merle’s life was held Dec. 20, 2013. Merle Williamson was born to Charlie and Isabel Hannett on Feb. 25, 1918 in Rocanville, Sask.

She was predeceased by her parents, her five siblings, husband William, son Dale, grandson Scott Dale and son-in-law Allan.

Merle leaves to cherish her memories: Son Donald, daughters Lylas (Ed), Cheryl (Sye) Hayden, daughter-in-law Cheryl (James) Reavie; Grandchildren: Tracy, Scott, Derek, Colin, Kevin, Nicole, Michelle, Phillip, Trenton, Lori, Lana, and Aynsley, as well as 31-and-a-half great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She attended school in Oak Knoll and met dad at a ball game. They were married on Sept. 1, 1937. Thus the memories began. They were married 64 years and eight months.

As the family grew, so did her love for each and everyone one of us. She loved to be called Gramma, but was even prouder to be called Old Gramma.

The matriarch of our family for 95 years, she taught us the love and importance of family, the acceptance that not all family members have to be born into the family, to be hard working, to have a sense of adventure, to give back to our community by volunteering, to have a lifelong love of learning and to be very, very thrifty.

A woman born before her time, she was independent, loved challenges and rose from the local, district and provincial level as a member of the Women’s Institute. She represented them at the world level in Kenya as the Saskatchewan president, and again in Germany as a life member of the Associated Women of the World. She traveled to Egypt, Holland, Scotland and every province in Canada except Nova Scotia. She was a delegate for the Sask Farm Association, Western Agricultural Association and the Canadian Federation of Agriculture, President of Rocanville Home and School Association and a school trustee.

We love you Mom/Gramma.

Memorial donations may be made to The Pentecostal Building Fund of Rocanville, Sask. or The Carnoustie Cemetery c/o Gary Williamson, Rocanville, Sask.
