James Wilfrid Baugh was born in Moosomin, Sask. to Ted and Cate Baugh on August 10, 1925. He died at the age of 89 on his 61st wedding anniversary.
Although Jim spent most of his life in B.C., he never stopped being a prairie boy and some of his fondest moments were spent with other prairie expatriates reminiscing about growing up in Saskatchewan in the 1930s and ‘40s.
After high school graduation Jim spent the next couple of years in the RCAF, then returned to Moosomin to work for the World-Spectator where he got his start in the news business. In the early 1950s he was Sports Editor of the Kamloops Sentinel and in 1952 went to Esterhazy, Sask., where he, and later his wife, Grace, published the Esterhazy Observer.
In 1959 Jim began his major career when he joined CBC Radio News, working as an editor, reporter and finally News Supervisor, retiring in 1985.
Jim is lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Grace; three sons, of whom he was extremely proud, Bruce (Diane); George (Michele) and Jamie (Pelar); three sweethearts who called him Grampa-Anna, Sylvanna and Zahara; and his sister Dorothy Thomson.
A memorial service was held at Mt. Seymour United Church, 1200 Parkgate Ave., North Vancouver at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014.
