Verna Christie, loving wife of the late Kenneth Christie of Rocanvile, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully at the Southeast Integrated Care Centre, Moosomin, Saskatchewan on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at the age of 90 years with family by her side.

Verna Doreen Harrison was the sixth of 14 children born to Wilbert and Nellie Harrison of the Old Rocanville District. Verna grew up with five older sisters, five younger sisters, and three younger brothers. Before her marriage, she worked for various neighbors around the area.

Verna married Ken Christie in 1948, and they worked as true partners on their grain and cattle farm east of Rocanville for over 40 years. Together Verna and Ken enjoyed retirement in Rocanville until they both entered long-term care in 2011, with Ken passing soon after.

Verna was very active in the community, volunteering with the United Church Women-Cheerio Unit, the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary, and many Rocanville celebrations over the years. Verna loved gardening, quilting, and baking and she shared the products of these hobbies with family and the community.

Verna was predeceased by her parents Wilbert and Nellie Harrison; husband Ken Christie; sisters Olive Holland, Ella Kingdon, Lorna Walker, Mabel Kydd, Selena Wilson, Elsie Knuttila, Inez Crosson and Della Taylor; brothers Jim Harrison, Fred Harrison and Ron Harrison; and daughter-in-law Judith Johnston-Christie.

Verna will be forever loved and remembered by son Dean Christie, his wife Linda, son Lucas, and stepson Tony Leland; daughter Elva Stronski, her husband Dale, sons Kyle and Steven Stronski; sisters Grace Williamson and Thelma Gerlitz; sisters-in-law Darlene Harrison and Myrna Harrison; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A graveside service was held at Webster Cemetery at Rocanville on Monday, September 8, 2014 with Dawn Wilson officiating. Pallbearers were Dean Christie, Dale, Kyle and Steven Stronski.

The family wishes to thank G.R. Carscadden Funeral Chapel for the arrangements. Thank you also to the relatives and friends who attended the service and shared their memories of Mom.
