Margaret Taber (Smith) Donald was born at Beaver Rapids, Welwyn, to the late Alexander Park Smith and Mary Justus (Taber) Smith. She went to school in the Stanley District, worked at various jobs and married James Gordon Donald on April 24, 1944.

Upon returning from service duties, Gordon and Margaret began farming on the original James W. Donald farm. Margaret learned many aspects of running a farm-cattle, grain and poultry.
Margaret and Gordon moved to the big stone house in 1958 with five kids. Margaret contributed to the income with sewing, baking, chickens and turkeys. She provided much support for all the activities the children undertook during the school years as well as active participation in the UCW, Agricultural Society and Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

After selling the farm to Ken and Ray, Gordon and Margaret moved to 418 Gertie Street in Moosomin, where they resided for over 20 years. They enjoyed many camping trips across Canada and the United States in their much enjoyed van. They helped the kids and grandchildren with many projects while visiting. Margaret and Gordon lived in Regency Court for two years before Gordon’s passing. Margaret moved to Sunrise Villa in Maryfield in 2012.

Margaret was predeceased by her husband James Gordon Donald on April 11, 2011 and by an infant son in 1945. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by her children: Shirley Donald of Banff; Fay Smith (Wayne) of Nova Scotia; Ray Donald (Heather) of Moosomin; Pat Vidal (Edmund) of Meadow Lake, and Ken Donald (Shirley) of Moosomin; 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; nephew John Selby of Moosomin, niece Lois Raymond (Marvin) of Peace River and by many cousins and extended families.

Margaret passed away at the Southeast Integrated Care Centre in Moosomin on Friday, September 12. A family graveside service was held followed by a public reception at the Moosomin Legion Hall on Friday, September 19 at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to the Moosomin and District Healthcare Foundation-Palliative Care, in memory of Margaret.
