In memory of Pearl A. Johnson who passed away peacefully with her family at her side at the age of 88.

Pearl will be greatly missed and is lovingly remembered by her children: Sharon (Gale), Carole, Sandy (Fred), Glenn (Debby), David (Laurie); her grandchildren: Clinton, Clay (Tammy), Eric (Nicole), Marc (Yvonne), Jeremiah (Jackie), Andy, Jessie, Lacey (Brennan), Levi (Laurie); and great-grandchildren: Ashlee, Alexandria, Cohen, Calleigh, Jaeda, Mason; sister-in-law Ileen and extended family.

She was predeceased by her husband Ernie Johnson; parents Olive and Joseph Turner; and siblings Myrtle, Reg and Lloyd.

Pearl was born near Holbein, Sask. and graduated from Grade 12 in Vancouver, B.C.

In 1949, Pearl married Ernie who brought his new bride to the family home near Manson, Manitoba. Together they operated a mixed farm, raised five kids and were actively involved in the Manson community.

In 1968, Pearl began working at the Bartley Department store in Elkhorn-a job she enjoyed for 17 years.

After Ernie’s passing, Pearl remained on the farm until 1984, at which time she bought a home in Elkhorn. She joined Toastmasters, rekindled her love of dancing, and became involved in the Legion, the Senior Leisure Centre, and the Manitoba Antique Museum. She worked for Senior’s Access to Independent Living and was nominated for the 2003 Citizen of the Year Award in Elkhorn. Pearl’s deeply rooted faith brought her to the Elkhorn United Church when her church closed in Manson in 1987.

At the age of 77, Pearl moved into Moosomin. It was time to downsize, plus she wanted to move closer to Sharon and Gale. She became a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.

A few years later, she joined the Centennial Manor family and stayed there for six years. Typical Pearl, she got involved with lending a helping hand to those in need. If you needed some shopping done or someone to get your mail, Pearl was your woman. While she was in the Centennial, she started the recycling program that is still in full swing today. Pearl valued her Centennial friendships, the morning coffee chats, evening card games, the sing-songs, monthly suppers or the group effort to complete a jigsaw puzzle.

Pearl’s own need for help increased. She felt blessed and grateful for all the home care visits and Gale, Sharon and Clinton’s special support. In 2012, Pearl’s health required another home relocation-first to Grenfell Pioneer Home, and then to Harvest Haven and Crocus Cove in Moosomin SEICC. Being a strong-minded woman who valued her independence, she focused on the positives-good company, a nice social room, outings and having church come to her.

Family, friends and her communities were central to Pearl. She lived a full life. She will be in our hearts forever.

Those wishing to make a donation in Pearl’s memory may do so to Moosomin and District Health Care Foundation (for long term care), Bag Service #1, Moosomin, SK S0G 3N0.

The family of Pearl Johnson would like to express our gratitude to everyone for your prayers and many kindnesses in thought, word and deed. Special thanks to Aunt Ileen who provided the family with nourishment and the opportunity to share stories and memories.
