Our mom, Thérèse, died peacefully Friday, October 31, 2014 in her 73rd year. As she wished, Mom drew her last quiet breath in the serenity of her beautiful sunroom at home in Rocanville enveloped by the love and care of her family.

Mom was born March 16, 1941, the second daughter and third child to John and Marian (Barnard) Perreault. She was born on the family farm in the Oak Knoll District north of Rocanville. Her early schooling was at Oak Knoll and later in Rocanville.

It was in Rocanville that our beautiful mother met her husband-to-be, Vernon Dauncey. Fast friends at 14 and 12 respectively, they would wed eight years later on November 20, 1963. Son Darren was born in 1964, then Michael came in 1965 with daughter Regan arriving in 1972, thus completing the family.

In 1973 Thérèse joined Vern as co-owner of the Rocanville Locker Plant and Liquor Store where she spent 12 busy and rewarding years working hard alongside Dad while continuing to take care of and dote on her kids.

After the business was sold, Mom worked in homecare for several years, retiring in 2001. Mom was a natural caretaker. The remarkable unconditional love, empathy and compassion her children were blessed to receive from her carried over to the people she helped. She considered it an honor and privilege to be able to care for them in their time of need.

Mom enjoyed a special bond with her big sister Gloria (they were the same age for a month!). In childhood they helped with farm chores alongside their brothers, rode horses to school and throughout the valley together and literally shared a special language only they understood. They would later go on to live near each other in Rocanville where Mom would often help out taking care of Gloria’s five children. Mom’s love for Kevin, Kenny, Kelley, Barb and Jeannette (Rae) was strong and true. We know they loved her back in full measure.

Mom enjoyed physical activity including all aspects of keeping her home and yard looking beautiful and well kept. Although she liked her "smokes," she was naturally athletic and otherwise kept herself fit and healthy. She enjoyed many years golfing and engaging in other activities with Dad and friends in Rocanville and going on various trips across Canada to see her cherished children and grandchildren.

Although certainly sociable, Mom was introspective and a true nature lover. She enjoyed nothing more than taking a book, pen and paper out to one of her favorite spots in the Qu’Appelle Valley, especially Fort Esperance, to wander about and catch some sun while doing some reading, writing and just thinking about life.

She also loved traipsing off to "villa teresa," her cozy little getaway cabana in the back yard, set up by Dad. There, Mom enjoyed creative solitude overlooking the gorgeous elm tree centerpiecing her beautiful yard and spending treasured time with her beloved grandchildren on their much anticipated summer visits. In the evenings she would read with them, enjoy a good thunderstorm or just hang out, laugh, talk about life and share fun and exciting stories she made up for them.

Humble and down to earth, Mom never made a big deal over the fact she was a very talented artist (drawing/sketching) and published poet receiving accolades from readers and literary critics alike.

In February of 2014 Mom and Dad celebrated 50 married years together on a most enjoyable and memorable trip of a lifetime to the beautiful Caribbean surrounded by her children and four grandchildren.

Most of all, Mom loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart and soul. She was most happy when they were with her. Goodbyes were always emotionally wrenching times for her. She simply couldn’t help herself. Thus, in the last two months of her life, we made sure we would never leave her right up to the moment she chose to go. We are so privileged and grateful to have her as our mother. Mom, as you told us many times, "Love you forever."

Thérèse leaves to mourn: her husband Vernon; her three children, Darren (Deborah), Michael (Mel), Regan Cherfan (Freddy); her grandchildren, Noah, Halle, Ryan, Laine; mother Marian Perreault; sister Gloria Miller; brothers Ron Perreault (Bonnie) and Henri Perreault (Imelda); brother and sister-in-law Darryl and Bernie Dauncey and many loved nieces and nephews along with many friends and acquaintances who so genuinely expressed their love and friendship during her lifetime, especially near the end. All will be remembered with undying thanks.

In Mom’s own words, dictated during her last month on earth: "I wish to express deepest gratitude and thank you for the many visits, so much food (which my family certainly enjoyed!), the wonderful cards, letters, and phone calls. So many beautiful flowers one had to see and to appreciate. Your support kept me lifted and positive. I will take these memories with me and cherish them forever. See you later . . ."

Thérèse was predeceased by infant brother Dwayne in 1942; her father John Perreault in 1971; youngest brother Dwayne Perreault (Donna) in 2008 and nephew Kevin Miller (Dee-Ann) in 2010.

After cremation, a graveside memorial took place at Webster Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2014 with Dawn Wilson presiding and Delta Kelly singing "What a Wonderful World." All who knew her were most welcome to attend. Reception followed in the United Church basement.

The family of Thérèse would like to thank Nurse Denise and Dr. Mercia, whose expertise and extraordinary compassion made Mom’s last few months much more bearable. A special thank you to the Turpie family who donated their loved one’s hospital bed, helping make mom’s days and nights comfortable.

Donations gratefully accepted in Thérèse’s name to a children’s charity of your choice.
