Myrtle Norbury passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on November 10, 2014 in the Elkwood Manor in Elkhorn, Manitoba with her family by her side.

Myrtle was born on the SW 2-15-28 in the Declare district in the RM of Archie. She was the 11th child of 12 born to Thomas and Sarah Davidson.

On June 25, 1941 she married Sydney Norbury (better know as Jeff) and moved three quarters of a mile east to the Norbury farm. Myrtle and Jeff raised six children: Keith, Donna and Dennis (who were twins), Gary, Rhonda and Karen. Over a 30 year period Myrtle and Jeff worked together on the farm milking cows, raising chickens and growing grain.

In September of 1971 they retired to the town of McAuley when Gary, their youngest son, took over the farm.

Myrtle loved living in town and right away obtained a job working for Ross Jamieson in Ross’s Solo store. She became very active in the community.
Myrtle belonged to the church UCW, sat on the rink board, belonged to the Drop-In Centre and she helped out in the community any way she could.

Myrtle had many hobbies. She taught ceramics for a number of years. She loved curling and took part in many bonspiels, also being head of the entertainment. She loved to paint and in later years wrote poetry. Myrtle loved playing bingo and once or twice a week would get together with family and friends to try her luck. Myrtle’s greatest love was for her eight grandchildren and her 13 great-grandchildren.

After Jeff passed away in 2002 Myrtle moved into the Elkwood Manor in Elkhorn in November of 2005. While she was in the Manor she enjoyed playing cards, listening to entertainment and visiting with residents, family and friends.

Myrtle was predeceased by her parents, in-laws, her husband Jeff, her two sons Keith and Dennis, her daughter Donna Jamieson, one infant grandson, her five brothers and six sisters, and by many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Myrtle is survived by son Gary (Sandra), granddaughter Alana (Trevor) Hagyard, great-grandson Brendan; daughter Rhonda Norbury; daughter Karen Coleman, grandson Terry, great-grandson Cash; grandson Cory (Jen Sloejes); granddaughter Tracy (Adam) Dupont, great-granddaughter Kaybree; granddaughter Kimberly (Bruce) Sulen, great-granddaughters Echo and Ezra; granddaughter Carrie-Lee Jamieson (Ray Towler), great-grandson Jamie (Pam) Jamieson; grandson Darcy (Diane) Jamieson, great-grandsons Kelsey (Stacy), Tyson, Devon, Levi and great-granddaughter Cheyanne; granddaughter Jody (Jim) Belhumeur, great-grandson Jeremy, great-granddaughter Jade; son-in-law Garnet Jamieson; daughter-in-law Shirley Norbury; sisters-in-law Elsie Buchinski, Myrna Norbury and Evelyn Richards; and by many nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service was held in the McAuley church with Rev. Maryanne Olfrey officiating. Poems written by Myrtle were read by her daughter Karen and granddaughter Alana. Urn bearer was her daughter Karen. Honorary pall bearers were all those in attendance. Interment was in McAuley cemetery.
