Ethel Eva May (Strong) Johnson was born on March 5, 1918 to parents, Norton and Hattie Strong on the family farm in the Old Rocanville District.

On February 11, 1942 Ethel married Duncan Johnson who would be her companion for the next 62 years. They lived on the Johnson family farm just north of Old Rocanville School. Ethel and Duncan had two daughters, Sharon and Patricia.

Ethel loved her home, garden and animals, in particular her beloved Pomeranian pups. She was an avid member of the Prosperity Homemakers. Many lifetime friendships were formed from the members of this group. In the quiet times, Ethel enjoyed puzzles-jigsaw, crossword, anything with numbers-and bingo nights were a favorite.

In 1974, Ethel and Duncan sold the farm and moved into Rocanville. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2002 and continued to live independently until 2004 when their health begin to decline. Duncan passed away in 2004 and Ethel moved to Sterling Manor in Moosomin.

The health decline continued requiring assisted living services. Since November 2010 Ethel has been cared for and loved by the staff at the South East Integrated Care Centre Long Term Care facility in Moosomin.

Although her memory had failed her she was content in her little world. She maintained her gentle demeanor, loved to laugh and still had a hint of mischief in her smile. On December 8 she passed away peacefully with family and her caregivers by her side.

Ethel was predeceased by her husband Duncan; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Charlie and Irene Strong and Cephas and Evelyn Strong; her sister Marjorie Smith; her sister-in-law Rose Johnson; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Charlie and Winnie Johnson; her son-in-law Delbert Nixon; her nieces Dawn Burner and Susan Behrns; and her nephew Wayne Strong.

She leaves to mourn her daughters Sharon and Patty (David); her grandchildren: Derrick (Elaine), Dale (Patty-Jo), Julie (Kelly), Capri and Aaron (Shannon); her great-grandchildren: Amanda, Tristen, Cody, Reise, Mason, Zoe, Ben, Shelby, Payton, and Mesa; her brother-in-law Doran Smith; nieces, nephews, caregivers and friends.

A funeral service was held at St. Paul’s United Church on December 12 with Dawn Wilson officiating. Interment followed at the Webster Cemetery.
