Mary Isabel Yeo of Moosomin, Sask. passed away at the SEICC on November 29, 2014. The funeral was held on Thursday, December 4 at Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Mel Konkel officiating.

Pallbearers were nephews Jim Findlay, Rick Findlay, John Yeo, Randy Yeo, Ivan Findlay, and Brock Findlay. Ushers were Tom Lowe and Jack Lemoine. Interment was at the South Cemetery.

Mary was born on September 29, 1921 in the Moosomin area to parents William and Clara McTavish. She was the oldest of five children. She was later joined by siblings John, Roy, Jean and Doreen.

Mary started school at Coverdale school southwest of Moosomin and later the family moved to the Woodlands district and she finished school at Woodlands. After finishing school, Mary went to work for David Yule where she worked hard as a housekeeper and all around hired hand.

On weekends Mary would come home and often attended the Woodlands school dances. It was here she met her future husband Albert Yeo.

They were married on January 10, 1942. They began farming and later were blessed with two children, Marilyn and Edwin. A few years later, daughter-in-law Kathy Purdon and son-in-law Ken Bennie joined the family. Grandson Troy Bennie came along in 1984.

Mary had a very strong work ethic and worked in the fields alongside Ab. She also always grew a large garden, kept chickens, picked berries and canned everything in sight. She was a good cook and there was always fresh bread, buns, and many sweets available at their house.

If anybody showed up unexpected for a meal it never fazed her and she always had enough to go around. Mary was also an avid quilter and never let any scrap of material go to waste. Everyone in the family and many friends were given one or more of her quilts over the years.

Mary always made sure her children were well taken care of and as they got older if there was some activity they wanted to be involved in she made it happen. She was also quite a tease and pulled many practical jokes on them during her lifetime. She enjoyed a good game of cards and loved to dance. Mary was very involved in her church and served in many different capacities.

Mary was predeceased by her parents; brothers and sisters-in-law John and Maggie McTavish and Roy and Vi McTavish; sister and brother-in-law Jean and Albert Findlay; sister Doreen Trenaman; nephew Brian McTavish; and all Ab’s siblings and their husbands and wives except for sister-in-law Isabelle Yeo.

Mary is survived by husband Ab, daughter Marilyn and Ken Bennie, son Eddie and Kathy Yeo, grandson Troy Bennie and his partner Cathy Rouse, granddog Emma, brother-in-law Arnold Trenaman and many nieces and nephews.

We love you Mary, you are forever in our hearts.
