Georgina passed away peacefully with family by her side January 24, 2013.

She was born on the family farm in the Wapella district on June 23, 1914 to William and Charlotte Heincke. She was the eldest of three children- brother William Jr. (Billie) born October 1915, and brother Robert (Bob) born June 1930. The family with children Georgina and Bill lived on the farm in the Wapella District until 1921, then they moved to the Carnoustie District. She completed her Grade 9 and went to work doing housework for different families in the area.

In December of 1936, Wellington Palmer was looking for a hired girl and this is what first brought Georgina to the Palmer Family Farm, Poplar Grove. It just happened that his son Nelson was home at the time. As time went on, both Nelson and Georgina decided that it would be a good idea for her to stay, so he proposed-besides it was the Dirty Thirties, money was tight and he wouldn't have to pay the hired girl anymore! They were married at Georgina's home at Bear Creek on May 24, 1939.

Nel's and Georgina's home was open to friends, neighbors and family night and day. The couple was blessed with six children, an infant son that passed away at birth, a son Roy, a daughter, Lila, a son William (Bill), a son Calvin and a daughter Koleen.

They retired from farming in 1970 and remained on the farm until they built a house in Rocanville in 1978. The farm remains in the Palmer family.

Georgina was very active in her "retirement." She was a member of the National Farmers Union and Prosperity Women's Institute for many years. She loved working in the garden, especially with petunias and tomatoes, doing beadwork, quilting, crocheting, knitting and doing jigsaw puzzles.

After Nelson's passing, she got the idea to start a thrift store in her basement, which she ran for nine years and made large donations of money to the community.

Georgina was predeceased by an infant son, both her parents, William and Charlotte Heinke, her brother, William Jr., husband Nelson and son, Roy.

She is survived by two daughters, Lila of Rocanville and Koleen (Marvin) of Kenaston, Sask; two sons, William (Marilyn) and Calvin both of Rocanville; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother Robert (Kathy) Heincke of Kelowna, B.C. and sister-in-law Dorothy Heinke of Moosomin and numerous nieces and nephews.

Georgina wanted us to share with you all one of her fondest memories:
In her own words: "Getting married and having a baby boy, Roy and then a girl, Lila. Bill, Calvin and Koleen all fit into the picture and we found the same excitement and enjoyed them all. You could say we lived for our family."

She also wrote:
"I have had a good life. Always enjoyed working for the people I was lucky enough to work for when I was young. Now I enjoy meeting people and having a friendly hello-or if you are too busy to chat, just a smile and hello mean so much!"

A celebration of her life was held in St. Paul's United Church, Rocanville on February 2, 2013 with Dawn Wilson officiating.

"You can shed tears that she is gone . . . or you can smile because she lived."
