Nellie Johnson, with her niece Connie and husband Brian by her side, left us to be with her Lord. Nellie was born in the RM of Brokenhead in 1920. She was one of eight children. Her family moved several times to different parts of Manitoba for farming.

Nellie went to work at a very young age and met her first husband Tony Simpson. They farmed together at McCreary, Manitoba. Later they bought a farm at Poplar Point, Man. but didn’t get to farm there as Tony was killed in an accident while they were hauling grain from McCurry to Poplar Point.

Nellie then moved to Portage La Prairie and started working at the veterinarian clinic there. It was there that she met Dr. Don Johnson (veterinarian) and they were married a short time later. They then moved to Langenburg and in 1968 moved to Moosomin where they farmed and Don was the veterinarian. They retired from the veterinarian business in 1997 and continued farming in Fleming.

Nellie loved her cattle and garden. She loved to see things grow and produce. She was always busy looking after cattle, her garden and her house. She was very meticulous about her book work. She loved to have company for dinner right up to the time that she moved to Broadview.

She was predeceased by her husband Dr. Don Johnson.

She is survived by her sisters-in-law Nel Skoropata and Betty Skoropata, many nieces and nephews.

Thank you to the doctors and staff at the Moosomin hospital, Broadview hospital and Wolseley nursing home for the care she received. Special thank you to Jack Daku and Edith Gibson.

A funeral service was held at G.R. Carscadden Funeral Chapel in Moosomin on Friday, November 13, 2015 with Pastor Waldo Armstrong offi ciating. Interment took place in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Moosomin.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Moosomin and District Healthcare Foundation in memory of Nellie.
