James Allan Buck, passed away at the Southeast Integrated Care Centre on December 24, 2015 in his 82nd year.

Allan was born April 16, 1934 to Alfred and Ada (Flint) Buck, the eldest of their two children. They and his younger sister, Elizabeth (Betty) lived on the old Percy Gillson farm before moving to the Stonehill place. After losing his father in WWII, Allan and his mother and sister eventually moved into Moosomin in 1945.

Allan completed his grade 10 in Moosomin and then he started to work for Pilsworth’s for a year. In the fall of 1952 he worked for Charlie and Ted Flewelling and from there he went to work for Ed and Fanny Fawcett for threshing. He thought of going trapping that winter, but Ed talked him into staying and he worked for the Fawcetts for 13 years.

Allan started working for Percy and lsobel Fawcett in the winter of 1965. It was from them that he bought his first cows. He was there until 1966 and then spent the following two years working for Fred and Phyllis Crossley. In the winter of 1969/1970 he moved his 10 head of cattle to Lundar, Man., in the interlake region. He worked in the community pasture there, while looking for land for himself. As prospects were not good, he returned to Moosomin in the spring of 1972 with his cattle.

He began working for Fred and Irene Fawcett on his return to Moosomin and he worked there until fall of 1974 when he leased the south half of 31-13-31 from Tom Muir. He purchased the farm in 1978. Allan continued to farm until the spring of 2004 when he decided to downsize and he sold his land and purchased the quarter just south of Moosomin, the former Joe and Edna Buck farm. Joe Buck was his Uncle and this was the old family farm. He farmed there until his passing.

Allan was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Ada Buck, his sister Elizabeth (Betty) Hallidie-Smith and his brother-in-law Andrew Hallidie Smith.

He leaves to mourn, his niece Mary (Barry) Coyle, nephew David Hallidie-Smith, cousins and many friends.

Allan took pride in being the fourth generation of Bucks to farm in the Moosomin area. He loved the outdoors and the simple life. We must also mention that Allan always heated his house with wood. Every fall he would have a wood cutting crew over to help stockpile the wood for the winter. His original crew included Garnie Fawcett, George Roy, Grant Beckett and Garth Plewes. There were many others over the year—you know who you are! Allan really enjoyed these get togethers and the little party that would follow. Many were also fed a little side pork and eggs at Allan’s over the years, along with a good visit. He will be missed.

A memorial will be held at a later date.
