Ed Paull passed away August 25 at the Elkwood Manor in Elkhorn with his family by his side.

Dad was born at the family farm in the Woodville area September 8, 1929 to Hannah and John Paull. He was the youngest of 4, with older sisters Margaret and Kathleen and older brother Bill. He and his siblings attended Woodville school.

Dad married mom, Irene Rozak, on November 26, 1955 on a very stormy day. They bought a farm in the Woodville District where they raised their family Ed Jr., Patricia, Rick and Terry.

Dad and mom moved to town in 1976 into a new house. They built the Creemee Restaurant at the same time and ran it for several years. Dad worked on drilling rigs and service rigs in the area in his youth and later had jobs at Weldon Industries at Virden and driving a school bus for many years. He could fix anything and wasn't afraid to rip anything apart or manufacture parts to get something running. He used these skills right up to when he couldn't work anymore.

Dad farmed for many years but his real passion was flying. A good friend and neighbor, Murray Wood, had a plane at a young age and they would often go up. That stuck with dad for many years and it was his dream to be a pilot. In 1976 his dream came true and he got his pilot license. He was a great pilot and flying came natural to him. He would often be up several times a day, summer or winter. Dad loved to make the planes "talk" and he would be up doing loops and spins or making the "Cub" sit still in mid air or even back it up if it was windy enough.

This all led into a crop dusting career which spanned many years, thousands of acres of crops and bugs being taken care of for many area farmers. Dad had nine lives in the spray planes and used a few of them up with some close calls!

Dad was very proud when Rick and Terry took up flying and following in his footsteps crop dusting. He also inspired two grandchildren to get their pilots license as well.

Dad was an old time pilot who would sooner fly than eat.

He just loved being up in the air. After his stoke in 2010 he was grounded, but enjoyed going up with Rick, Terry and grandson Colin. A couple of times, we had to pull him out of the plane, as he was determined that the stroke wouldn't slow him down.

Dad always had an optimistic outlook and never gave up. His determination and strong will served him well.

Dad and mom were always together, whether it was just going for a casual drive, or heading off somewhere to look at a plane or construction equipment. Dad loved to wheel and deal. He bought and sold nearly 100 planes over the years. He and mom would find one and even though it hadn’t been flown for a few years, they'd buy it, check the oil, throw some gas in it, and fly it home.

Dad loved dozers, graders and backhoes as well. He always had something around to rip, tear, and fix. He had great enjoyment wheeling and dealing in these too.

Dad was a great help to Ed Jr., Tricia and their families on the farm. Dad always had some equipment to use to help out. He did like combining and helped lots with that. In the latter years, he helped with moving equipment from field to field and driving or flying for parts. Dad really enjoyed the meals in the field and the many Sunday suppers Patti had him out for.

Dad loved mom and all of his children and grandchildren very much. His grandkids were very special to him. He always wanted to know what they were up to and how they were doing. He would have done anything for them. In the last few years he was fortunate to have 7 great-grandchildren come along. He always had a big smile when he saw them and loved to talk with them or give them high fives.

Dad was a huge part of our families and we loved him very much.

Ed was predeceased by his wife, Irene (Rozak); Mother and Father, Hannah and John Paull; Mother and Father-in-law, Anna and Alex Rozak; brother, Bill Paull and sister, Kathleen Thomson; sister-in-law Jo Saville; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Leonard, Allan Thomson, Wes Rozak and Bill Saville.

He will be sadly missed by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Ed Jr. and Patti; Shane and Stacy, Sloan, Tessa and Madilynn; Lindsey and Charlie (Flannery), Greyson; Patricia and Brent (Nolan), Erin and Jamie, Cory and Kalee, Trevor, Blair and Helene; Rick and Tannis, Carmen, Colin and Courtney; Terry and Vivian; Chelsey and Patrick, Tucker; Chloe and Cory (Plaisier), Noah, Avilyn; sister Margaret Leonard; brother-in-law Frank (Ruby) Rozak, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Thank you
Thank you so much to Dr. Crouse and the nurses and staff of the Elkwood Manor for the wonderful care Dad received and for making it feel like home for him. We are so fortunate to have this excellent facility in our community.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of the Reston Transitional Care Home for the time Dad was a resident there as well as the doctors and staff of the Moosomin Regional Hospital for the times Dad was a patient there over the years.

Thank you to the Home Care co-ordinators and the Home Care workers for everything you did to help Dad. Much appreciation to all the staff of the Meals on Wheels program for the excellent meals Dad received when he was still at home.

Heartfelt thanks to Fr. Eric Zadji for the beautiful Funeral Mass for Dad and all you did that brought us comfort. Thanks so much to Young At Heart and Gerry Lund for singing and playing at the funeral and Bev Eilers and Colette Gonty for the music at the Prayer Service. You are all wonderful musicians and singers! To all who assisted at the Funeral Mass, thank you very much.

Thank you to the Elkhorn Elks ladies for the lovely lunch we had. To Rob Chapman, sincere thanks for doing the farewell fly-over tribute to Dad. Just as Dad would fly over and wave the wings to say hi to us, you waved goodbye to Dad for us.

Much gratitude to Wenda at Past and Present for the special flower arrangement you made with Dad's wooden prop. It was absolutely beautiful!

To our family and friends for the lovely flowers and arrangements, for food dropped off, the cards we received, donations made in Dad's memory, prayers and well-wishes; heartfelt thanks for your love and support. Our gratitude to Carscadden Funeral Chapel for all of their help, guidance and support during our time of sorrow.

Sincerely,
Ed and Patti, Rick and Tannis, Terry and Vivian, Tricia and Brent and our families.
