Alexandre Jean Joseph Fouillard

It is with sad and heavy hearts that the immediate family announces the passing away of Alexandre Jean Joseph Fouillard on Saturday, March 31, 2017 at the Sunnyside Manor Senior Care Home in Birtle, Man. after a lengthy illness.
Alexandre “Alex” was born on March 17, 1929 to proud parents Eugene Fouillard, Sr. and Hélène (nee Simard) Fouillard, Sr. in Saint-Lazare, Man.
He attended Decorby School as a student, then worked as a tire repairman at the Esso gas station for his uncle Ben Fouillard. He then worked as a farmhand at A.L.E. Farms for nearly twenty years until he was employed with CN Rail from 1973 up until his early retirement in 1988.
In the spring of 1953, Alex met, courted and married Claire Larocque from Pinewood, Ont. on April 15 and settled back in Saint-Lazare, Man., where they spent their lives together.
Alex was predeceased by his lovely wife Claire whom they shared a close matrimonial bond of 57 years on January 5, 2011.
He was also predeceased by his parents, Eugene, Sr. (1953) and Hélène Sr (1986), his brothers Constant (1962), Paul (1990), Eugene (1990), Ernest (1991), Leon-Joseph (1992), his sister Jeanne (2006), his brother Arthur (2014), son-in-law Bill Owens (2017), and his grandson Randy James (2002).
He is survived by his eleven children: Nicole (Yves) Descottes, Ginette (Vern) Poworeznyk, Prudence Owens, Francis (Wendy) Fouillard, Yvon (Lynne) Fouillard, Louis (Valerie) Fouillard, Elie Fouillard, Joceline Fouillard, Laurent Fouillard, André Fouillard and Mireille Fouillard. Alex is also survived by his sisters: Hélène (Emile) Huybrecht and Rose-Marie (Murray) Cook.
The family would like to graciously thank all of the nursing staff and doctors at the Russell District Health Centre, Russell, Man. and the Sunnyside Manor in Birtle, Man. for providing excellent and wonderful care to our father Alex with much appreciation and dedication.
Evening prayer service was held on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 7:30 pm and funeral service was held on Saturday April 8, 2017 at 10 am at St. Lazare Roman Catholic Church in St. Lazare, Man. Interment to follow at the St. Lazare RC Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a donation in Alex’s memory can be made at a charitable organization of your choice. Braendle-Bruce Funeral Service in care of arrangements.
