Our family announces with great sorrow the passing of Alfred on January 14, 2018.

Alfred was born on August 19, 1931 to Adolf and Natalie Steinke at a farm near Wapella (34-15-32 W1).

He attended Coot Hill School. Alfred and his brother Otto took over the family farm which they farmed together until Otto’s passing in 1989.

Alfred and Jean (Mary Jean Morrow) met at a country dance and they danced their way to a lifelong love. They married June 3, 1961 at St John’s Lutheran Church in Wapella.

Alfred took an active role in his community. He was a volunteer fireman, played and umped fastball for many years, curled in the winters, was a passionate golfer and founding member of the Wapella Golf Club.

Alfred was predeceased by his wife Jean of 50 years; Jean’s parents Charles and Bertha Gladys Morrow, his parents Adolf and Natalie; his brother Otto; and brothers in law, Arthur Bergstresser and William Yuhas.

Alfred is survived by his sisters Alma Bergstresser and Ruth Yuhas; his children Lorne (Darla) and children Anna, Natasha (Brendon), Branden, Dustin and Tanner; daughter Sandra (Michael) McGonigal and their sons Dallas and Logan (Laura) McGonigal and their daughters Avery and Brielle; and son Dale (Christine) and their son Dylan; and numerous other family members and friends.
