Henrietta Outhwaite (nee Obre), resident of the Southeast Integrated Care Centre, formerly of the Hillburn district, passed away on March 2, 2018 at the age of 97 years.

Henrietta was born on August 17, 1920 in Wapella, a daughter to Charles and Edith (Nesbitt) Obre. She was raised in the Eden Grove district south of Wapella with her parents; brothers David and Irvie; and sisters Muriel and Pearl. After Henrietta completed her education she babysat or worked as a housekeeper for families in the Wapella area.

On April 10, 1943 Henrietta was united in marriage to Stephen Outhwaite. They settled on the family farm in the Hillburn district. Henrietta remained on the family farm until she moved into the nursing home in June of 2014. The couple had three children: Noreen, Frances and Douglas. Henrietta’s days were filled with caring for the children and working alongside Steve on the farm. Henrietta, as many farm wives did in that time, kept a large garden. She continued to keep gardening as long as her health would allow. Henrietta always had an open door, all guests were welcome, and never left without a full stomach.

Henrietta was actively involved in community life. She belonged to numerous groups, including: the Hillburn Homemaker’s club, the Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Church board, and was part of the Rocanville and district history book committee. In Henrietta’s free time she enjoyed quilting and curling. She continued to enjoy watching curling long after she was able to curl. After moving into the nursing home, Henrietta embraced her new home. She enjoyed participating in the activity programs and working on puzzles with her friend Grace.

Henrietta always remained current on the various on-goings of her family and how Douglas was progressing on the farm. She had frequent phone calls and visits with her children to see how everyone was doing and what was new.

Henrietta was predeceased by her husband Steve (December 1999); son-in-law, Ron Hardy; parents Charles and Edith Obre; in-laws, Frederick and Violetta Outhwaite; brothers, Dave and Irvie Obre; sisters and brothers-in-law, Muriel (Lew) Powell and Pearl (Henry) Huelsman; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Nellie (Bill) Taggart, Violet Townsend, Mary (Leason) Atcon, Thomas (Mable) Outhwaite, George Outhwaite, Charlie (Florence) Outhwaite; and several nephews and a niece.

She is survived by her children Noreen Hardy, Frances (Lawrence) Natomagan, and Douglas Outhwaite. Grandchildren; Kevin (Janine) Hardy, Tricia Hardy, Lindsay Natomagan (Rob McKnight), Brant Natomagan, and Kenton Natomagan (Erin Hansen). Great-grandchildren; Adley and Everett Hardy; Tessa Natomagan, Cale and Caiden McKnight; Aydon Natomagan; Ellie and Thein Natomagan. Sister-in-law, Nellie Outhwaite; nieces and cousins.
