June was born at her parents home, Myrle and Lillian (nee Hanson) Sauter, near Walpole, SK.

She was the eldest of seven children, having two brothers, Duane and Don, and four sisters, Geraine, Carol, Joanne and Dale.

She attended school at Walpole, Ardine and Fairlight. After completing her schooling June moved to Moosomin to work at the Queens Hotel, this is where she would meet a charismatic young man named Bob (Robert) Van Meer. They were married on November 25, 1948 and together they made a great team. They ran a successful business that was a Scrap Yard/ Auto Wrecking/ Welding business but they did so many more things from selling ice and fence posts and even Christmas Trees.

Their yard was a busy place and all were welcome in June’s home. In a minute’s notice she could make a meal that had been prepared to feed four into something special enough for company numbering seven.

They were also successful at raising a family and had five children, Catherine (Kay), Susan (Sue), William (Bill), James (Jim), and Donald (Don).

June was a passionate reader and always had at least one book on the go. She did quilting and intricate crocheting. Up until the last few years she had a big garden that she tended to diligently. She enjoyed talking politics and always kept up on the news. Cryptograms, crosswords and word searches were done daily. Her biggest joy came from playing cards and an afternoon playing with her sisters was filled with laughter, storytelling and the odd accusation of cheating!

June passed away at home on July 11 at the age of 87. She was predeceased by her husband Bob, her parents Myrle Sauter and Lillian Faulkner and step father Joe Faulkner, her Son Bill, grandson Anthony, granddaughter Randi May, and great-granddaughter Keira, her brothers Don and Duane and sister Geraine.

She leaves behind to remember her love, daughters, Kay (Lloyd) Gould, Sue (Wayne) Shepherd daughter in-law Susan Van Meer, Sons Jim (Shelley) Van Meer and Don (Pam) Van Meer and 14 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and the start of the great-great grandchildren. Sisters Carol Mills, Joanne (Armand) Moreau, Dale (Walter) Purvis, brother-in-law John Sheard, sisters-in-law Joy Sauter and Maria Sauter and tons of nieces and nephews.

A celebration of June’s life was held on July 19 at the Legion Hall after her interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
