It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Don Heal peacefully on Monday, February 25, 2019 at the age of 80.

Don is predeceased by his parents, Ernie and Iris, his brothers Alan and Rennie, sister-in-law Delores, brothers-in-law George Huckle and Alan Kernechuk and nephews Michael Huckle and Phillip Heal.

He will be greatly missed by his sister Carol Huckle, brother Brian (Sonia) Heal, brother Terry (Virginia) Heal, sister Penny Heal, sister-in-law Jeanne (Arnie) Osolinsky, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Don was born June 14, 1938 on the farm at Maryfield, the second of seven children. He lived his whole life on the family farm with the exception of a short time that he worked for his Uncle Rennie McAdoo at his farm. Don and brother Alan took over the family farm when our father retired. In 2004, Don and Alan were proud to receive on behalf of the family, the Century Farm award. When Alan was no longer able to farm, Don took over the farm as the sole owner.

Don’s two great loves of his life were his family and the farm. He especially loved his nieces and nephews. He didn’t shower them with gifts or money—he gave them something more precious—his time. He would show them where to find the first crocuses in spring, take them rafting, teach them to drive, play cards and board games and share his love of the land. Don also enjoyed attending hockey and ball games, especially those involving local teams of all ages from Maryfield and Redvers. He would travel to attend as many games/events as he could that any of his nieces or nephews were participating in.

Don enjoyed the communities of Ryerson and Maryfield and supported/ attended many of their events. He particularly enjoyed the annual Maryfield fair and the Ryerson Community Picnics and Christmas parties.

In August 2018, Don hosted the Heal-McAdoo family reunion at the family farm. Over 200 family and friends attended. It was a wonderful event and he thoroughly enjoyed reconnecting with family and friends.

As his health deteriorated, Don spent his last year in Raymore and Regina. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the amazing Regina Pasqua Palliative Care staff for their wonderful care and support.

Funeral service was held at the Maryfield United Church on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 2 pm.

Internment will be at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Regina Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Ward or to Kinsmen Telemiracle.
