Hugh was born on the farm near McAuley, Manitoba April 25, 1924. He grew up on the farm and married Jean Chilcott from Rocanville on November 20, 1947 and started their own farm near Welwyn where they continued managing and working the farm side by side.

In 1977 he became a Hail Adjuster for a few years which gave him the skills to get fair adjustments on the family farm from then on. The extra cash came in handy for educating their children. Dad was involved in the community as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the United Church, on the Welwyn Park Board, the School Board and the Board of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool.

Mom and Dad had a wonderful trip to Ontario and the Maritimes that they remembered fondly for many years. They visited the Yukon and made several trips to B.C. to visit Gloria and Warne and their family and many Welwyn friends who had moved to B.C.

It is only in very recent years that Dad has not had hands-on in the operation of the farm but did continue to manage it.
