It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Virginia Ann Heal (Armstrong) at the age of 73, on July 7 at the Santa Maria Care Home in Regina.

Virginia was predeceased by her mother, Blanche Armstrong, and her Aunts and Uncle, Florence Hopper, Ethel Clark, and Doug and Illene Redfern, all of Moosomin, Sask. She was also predeceased by her mother and father-in-law, Iris and Ernie Heal of Maryfield. She is survived by her husband Terry, their daughters Janine (Don) and Michelle; her brother Ron (Wilma), and her sister Janice. She is also survived by her step-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren and a large extended family.

Virginia was born in Moosomin on November 23, 1946, where she grew up and went to school. She always loved children, and she babysat for many people in the town. After high school, she worked for a time at the Creamery, then with a local dentist, and finally with Ned Shillington who had the law office in Moosomin at that time. In 1970 she met and married her husband Terry who was working at the TCPL pipeline station. Terry grew up in the Maryfield district, and graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in the spring of 1970. Over the years they resided in Toronto, Calgary, Regina, Yorkton area and finally retired in Regina.

Virginia loved being a stay at home mom, and was a fabulous cook. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, and painting. She made several quilts, and countless afghans, usually given away as gifts. Several nieces and nephews have a baby blanket that she knitted for the occasion. She took up painting after they settled in Regina, and it gave her another outlet for her creative talent. She enjoyed annual winter vacations, until the onset of Alzheimer’s in 2015. Several trips were made to Hawaii, the Caribbean and to the southern USA.

Thank-you to all the staff at Santa Maria Care Home for their wonderful care and compassion towards Virginia for the last two years.

In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Society, Santa Maria Care Home, or a charity of your choice.

Interment will be in the Maryfield cemetery at a later date.
