It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our Mom and Grandma on August 1st 2020 after a very brief illness at Regina General Hospital.

Eileen was the eldest of three children born to Theodore and Hilda Sloat of Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. She is survived by her husband Andrew, sons Greg (Jenny) of Kelowna B.C., and Dale of Moosomin, daughter Sandra (Brad), granddaughters Morgan and Jenna all of Calgary Alberta, sisters Peggy (Robert) Needham of Piapot Saskatchewan and Linda Edge of Rimbey Alberta along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her Mother, Father, and brother in law Barry Edge.

Eileen grew up in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan and completed her Registered Nursing program at St. Micheal’s in Lethbridge Alberta. She worked at the Moosomin Union Hospital from the time she married and moved to Moosomin in 1961 until she retired while still continuing to work casually up to 2009 at the Nursing Home. Most would remember her as running the Outpatients Department at the old hospital for many years.

She had multiple health complications throughout her life and spent many years fighting renal disease and receiving dialysis in Regina three times a week until she received a kidney donation from her sister Linda in 1984, making her one of the longest surviving kidney transplant recipients in Canada.

She never looked back once she regained her strength and mobility after her surgery. During the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, she went on annual horseback trail rides with the Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies, and made many lifelong friends. She was an avid photographer, especially during this time, and we have lots of wonderful pictures from these trips. She also traveled to many countries in Europe and went on numerous cruises, from Alaska to the Panama Canal, and the Galapagos Islands just to name a few. We also have many great memories and pictures from a family trip to Disney World for her 70th birthday in 2010. She attended as many Worlds, Briers and Tournament of Hearts curling bonspiels as she could all across Canada.

Mom was always a very crafty person and never sat with her hands idle, especially while she was watching curling! She knit and crocheted her whole life along with becoming a very avid quilter since she fully retired. She has left behind many memories for a lot of family members and friends with her amazing quilts, sweaters, blankets, baby clothes, mitts and toques and lots of other crafts.

A small family service was held on August 7th and a larger celebration of her life can hopefully be held in 2021 for other family and friends that were unable to join us.

Donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada in memory of Eileen.
