James Ewart (Jim) Smart passed away peacefully at the Moosomin Long Term health care facility on December 5, 2020 at the age of 91. He was predeceased by his wife Inga in 2018 as well as his two brothers and sister. He is survived by his sons Glen (Judy), Barry (Lyla), Scott (Donica) and daughter Charlotte (Ted). He is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom were his pride and joy. He was born on April 18, 1929 on the family farm East of McAuley, Manitoba. He was the youngest child of Augustus and Charlotte Smart. It was there he would spend the next 52 years of his life. Jim married Inga Johnson on July 4, 1953. Together they ran a mixed farming operation as well as a dairy farm for many years. It was there they raised their four children. In 1981, they relocated to McAuley, where they would spend the next 21 years. During that time he was still actively involved in the farming operation. His true passion in life was farming, and like many other farmers of his era, he could never get that out of his blood. In 2002, they moved to Moosomin where they would reside in their new home until 2014. When Inga went into long-term care that year, they sold their home and he moved into Centennial Manor, which would be his home for the next 4 years. There he made many new friends but always found time every day to visit his wife. He was a truly loyal and dedicated husband. With failing health, long-term care would be his next home for the final year of his life. Up until the last few days of his life he was still able to communicate with his family and maintain his sense of humour. Our family cannot begin to express the gratitude we feel to all the doctors, nurses and the entire staff at the long-term care facility, while Jim was in their care. We will be eternally grateful for the care and compassion he received from everyone. Jim will be remembered as a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather as well as a good friend to many people. He was a very unselfish man who cared more for his family and others than he did for himself. May he Rest In Peace. A celebration of his life will take place next summer when hopefully our families can all be together. At such time he will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens next to his late wife Inga. Together forever.
