It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Arthur James Cameron of Wawota, Sask. at the age of 90 years. Arthur passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 4 at Deer View Lodge where he was a resident. The family of Arthur wish to extend their appreciation to the staff at Deer View Lodge for their caring, compassion and patience of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather during his care there.

Arthur was born on October 26, 1922 in Kipling, Sask. He was the eldest son of Amelia and John Cameron, with one younger sibling, Ian. His family spent some time in Estevan while his father was Chief of Police. In 1926 they moved to the Pickwell District near Wawota where they farmed.

In 1940, Art joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. He finished his education in Regina and in Manitoba taking courses to become a mechanic. Before Christmas he was sent overseas as a plane mechanic. He spent time in England, Scotland, Holland, France, Denmark, Germany and Belgium during his service. He came home on September 23, 1945 and began farming with his father and was honorably discharged on October 18, 1945.

He met the love of his life, Beryl Davis, and on June 2, 1946 they were married. They had three children, Larry, Josephine and Katherine. They raised their children and continued to farm in the Pickwell District until they retired in 1979 and moved into Wawota. In 2011, Arthur became a resident of Deer View and Beryl moved into the apartments in Wawota.

Over the years he wore many hats. He was a solider, a mechanic, a pilot, a town councilor, a Reeve, a crop insurance agent, a sales agent for Young’s Memorials, a carpenter, he dug water wells, he was a car salesman, he had a talent for witching wells, he kept the Pickwell District’s roads open for many winters, and for many years he was Jim’s right hand man on the farm. He was a lifetime Legion member, served on the Museum, United Church and Drop In Centre Boards and was one of the original Lion’s members.

He loved to play pool and have coffee with the boys. He also loved to buy new cars and just when Beryl would get one car figured out he would bring home a different one. Those cars made lots of miles taking them out for supper anywhere from Carlyle to Moosomin and everywhere in between.

Arthur is predeceased by his wife Beryl on July 29 of this year, his grandson Adam, his parents John and Amelia Cameron and brother Ian. He is survived by his son Larry (Terri) Cameron of Rocky Mountain House, Alta., his daughter Josephine (Jim) Easton of Wawota, daughter Katherine Cameron of Regina; grandchildren Tammy (Todd) Davies of Wawota, DeAnn (Iain) Watson of Calgary, Ryan (Allison) Easton of Regina, Tracey and Jodi Cameron of Calgary, Aysia and Kyra Yeo of Regina; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Talisa Davies, Marlee and Julia Easton, and Henry and Frederick Watson as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The funeral service was held in Wawota United Church on October 11, 2013 with Roy Bortolotto officiating. Interment at Fernley Cemetery was held on October 20, 2013.
