At the Moosomin Chamber of Commerce meeting on Tuesday, Jeff Skulmoski said the Terry Lynd Basketball Court is essentially complete.

“I am pretty sure this is the last time you will hear me talk about the Terry Lynd Court,” he told Chamber members. “We are pretty much fully funded.
“Another maybe $5,000 or so would be useful for some signage or some ball racks or things like that. As of right now we have enough funds to say the project is complete so thank you to everyone.

“The local business community was huge on this project. We did a lot of fundraising but the majority of the money came from local businesses, corporate sponsors, and people helping out.

“It was two and a half years in the making and it definitely wasn’t cheap but we got it done. We started out the project looking at about $120 000 to build it, but with inflation and a few addons, it got pushed up and then we decided to build a kids court in beside it and utilise the concrete pad. So with the fencing and the court surface and nets, and other things, we were up to about $170,000 with that project, which sounds like a lot but we used the best and the most high quality products to build it.

“We had the latest donors that I don’t think have been highlighted yet. East Side Playground, they had $8,000 left over from their project so they helped us out, Twin Auto donated $5,000, Terry and Wendy Lynd donated a couple thousand, the Lions Club did a 50/50 for us and raised about $1,000 and the Red Barn sent just over $1,000, so that project is pretty much complete.
“We have some ideas for the grass and making it look nice on the east side and that’s in the works and it will come.”

New crop project raising funds for rec facilities
Skulmoski also pointed out to Chamber members that a new project has started in the Moosomin area to raise money for rec facilties.

“We are putting on a new project. We are growing a crop south of town with some land that is rented to us and the community has donated a lot of product to create this crop.

“We are looking at about $50,000 potentially that we are going to make with this fun raiser so if anyone has ideas on where this money should go or recreational projects, get ahold of me.

“We allocated about $20,000 to finish this court, and I think $10,000 for the dog park, so we are open to ideas and if anyone wants to get a hold of me, that would be great.”
