It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth ‘Ray’ Swallow on September 11, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Ray was born June 2, 1960 and was the youngest son of William and June Swallow of Maryfield.

He grew up on the family farm south of Maryfield and moved to Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, shortly after he graduated from high school.

He was a welder by trade, owning his own welding business for many years.

In 2014 he became a QA/QC Supervisor for Challand Pipeline Ltd., working for Challand until his passing.

Ray met and married the love of his life, Annette Pitre, of Rocky Mountain House in 1986.

Ray loved animals, the outdoors, and sports: fastball, hockey, dirt biking, snowmobiling, hunting and drag racing, to name a few.

He and Annette enjoyed many adventures, vacations and camping trips.

Having grown up on the family farm, he had farming in his blood and loved to spend time custom discing in the Rocky area.

Ray is predeceased by his mother, June Swallow, father-in-law, Levis ‘Pete’ Pitre and brother-in-law, Allan Van Eaton.

He leaves to mourn, his wife, Annette; father, Bill; brother, Bryan (Barb) and sister, Cindy (David); mother-in-law Lina; and sisters-in-law, Alice (Scott) and Theresa (Carl); nephews: Nathan (Melanie), Levi (Lindsay), Virgil (Tapanga), Emilio; nieces: Amanda (Adam), Kelsey (Dustin), Marlee, Olivia; great-nephews: Cassidy, Tucker, Forrest, Ernest; great-nieces: Blakely, Isabelle; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He will be missed by his pets: horses Banner, Mingo; dog Rio, cat Vinny.

A funeral service celebrating Ray’s life was held Monday, September 19, 2022, at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Rocky Mountain House.

Burial followed at the Pine Grove Cemetery.

For those who wish to do so, memorial donations may be made in Ray’s name to the ROAR Society or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Ray’s family would like to thank everyone for their kindness following his death.

Thank you for the phone calls, texts, emails, visits, and the gifts of food.

Special thanks to those who sent flowers and to all those who attended the funeral whether in-person or virtually.

It’s always difficult to say good-bye; the support of family and friends is so important at this difficult time. Thank you!
