Born south of Dubuc, Saskatchewan, in Axle and Marta Franson’s farmhouse, Martha was the older of two daughters of Elof John Anderson and Jenny Evelyn Franson.
Martha attended Round Lake Elementary School and took her high school in Dubuc, after which, she spent one year in Teachers College at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
Martha taught for ten years after obtaining another year of secondary education.
She managed the Kozy hotels for 6.5 years and the Sears outlet in Whitewood for 17 years.


In 1953, she was married to WM. Ken Burge. They had six children but were divorced in 1995.


Martha enjoyed visiting people, playing cards, and dancing. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, and painting, especially on rocks.


Martha was predeceased by her parents and her sons Sid and Ron Burge.


She is survived by her partner Fred Joynt, her sister, Bernice, and her children; Brian, Teresa, Anita, and Jean Nelson and ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, plus many cousins, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.


A service was held Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 2 p.m. at the Whitewood United Church, in Whitewood, Saskatchewan which was followed by interment at Stockholm Village Cemetery, Stockholm, Saskatchewan.


If friends so desire, donations may be made to Angels of Hope Animal Rescue, Esterhazy.
