It is with peaceful hearts filled with much love, that we announce the passing of Jessie "Jean" Crichton Flannery of Elkhorn, Manitoba, on November 16, 2013.

Jean died peacefully, with family at her side at the Southeast Integrated Care Centre in Moosomin. She was in her 84th year.

Jean was the beloved wife of the late James Thomas Gray Flannery (passed away May 30, 2010) and dear mother of Jayne (Ralph Dietrich) of Mildmay, Ont. and Tim Flannery (Kim and partner Joy Cruickshank) of Miniota, Manitoba.

Grandma will be forever missed by her loving grandchildren: Tim (Tanya) Dietrich, Brad (Esther)Dietrich, Heather (Joel) van Straten, Greg Dietrich, Janelle (Andrew) Bennett, Breanne Dietrich, and Lee (Kim) Flannery, Robert Flannery, and Ryan Flannery.

Great-Grandma was adored by her great-grandchildren on the Dietrich side: Colton, Pilar, Gladys Jean, Isabel, Nathan, Emily, Sofia and Katelyn; and on the Flannery side: Dawson James, Emmalee, Abbie and Allyson.

She is survived by sisters Anna (James Cann) of Eden Mills, Frances (Samuel Martin) of Guelph, and Martha (Dean Morrison) of Burlington and brother Leslie (Dorothy) Phillips of Rexdale, and brother-in-law Steve Sofroniuk of Vita, Man., and sister-in-law Edna Flannery of Toefield, Alta.

A lovely memorial service was held at the Gospel Fellowship Hall at Elkhorn, Man. on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013. Interment will be in the spring at Pipestone Cemetery, Pipestone Man.

Thanks to Pat Wolfe and Agnes and Nathaniel of the Gospel Fellowship Hall, Pastor Mel Konkel, Rev Salvey, and to Dorothy Roach for the very beautiful music.

Jean was born on Lot 2, Con 2, West Garafraxa, Fergus, Ont. on March 20, 1930. She attended school at Shands and high school in Fergus.

Jean and Jim met in Fergus as Jim was on holiday from Manitoba and was visiting a distant relative (another Jim Flannery) in Fergus and stayed on as a boarder at Jean’s grandparents’.

As a young bride she farmed with Jim on Lot 2, Con 2, West Garafraxa, worked at Tweddles Chick Hatchery in the office, and then on to Moore Business Forms in Fergus.

In 1975 Jean and Jim bought a farm in the rural municipality of Archie, Man. They converted the farm to dairy, and it was home to 17 foster children.

She was very well known for her ability to write and especially recite her many poems and stories from memory on numerous occasions for friends, neighbors and church community. She is an accomplished author of two books, one on the Lohr (Crichton) family from Proton township, originating in Mornington Township, and also a book of her poems titled a Collection of Biblical Poetry. She will always be remembered as a great cook and gardener, number one Scrabble player, puzzler, canasta master, yard sale deal finder, story and joke teller with an incredible laugh. She was an example of strength, especially in her love of her family and her faith in God.

A special thank-you to all her caregivers at the Elkwood Manor who made her feel so special. She loved you dearly, and for that we are truly grateful.
