Joan Leona Fowler passed away peacefully on January 5, 2024, at Deer View Lodge in Wawota, Saskatchewan. She was 88 years of age.
Joan was born December 7, 1935, near Ryerson, Saskatchewan. She was raised on the farm and attended school in Fairlight. She found her love of the outdoors and farm life at an early age, helping with chores and playing softball.
On November 7, 1953, Joan married the love of her life, Henry Fowler, of Mair, Saskatchewan. Henry and Joan farmed south of Ryerson where they raised five children.
Joan was the epitome of the strong, silent type. She could be found working alongside Henry in the fields, in the barns, and tending her garden. She loved handiwork, reading, and watching sports of all kinds.
Most of all, Joan loved looking after her family. Her talent for knowing and preparing everyone’s favourite foods was evident every time family visited at the farm. This talent extended to her incredible memory for knowing all birth dates, anniversaries, and any other date imaginable.
Joan was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Henry; her granddaughter and son-in-law, Carla and Fred Adair; her parents, Jim and Evelina Oliver; her brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Gloria Oliver; her father and mother-in-law, Jim and Rosie Fowler; brothers-in-law, Eddie, Frank, Eldon, and Howard Fowler; sister-in-law, Evelyn Fowler; and niece, Janice Raab.
Joan is survived by her five children: Don (Dana) Fowler, Diane (Jim) Bowey, Darlene (Doug) Lott, Daryl (Diane) Fowler, Doug (Leslie) Fowler; her grandchildren: Bryn Fowler, Abbi Fowler (Jon), Pam (Jamie) Jamieson, Kayla (deceased) (Kit) Lawrence, Kimberley (Mark) Moore, Terry Lott, Corey (Jenna) Lott, Daniel Fowler, Ben (Emilie) Fowler, Zach (Morgan) Fowler, Anna Fowler (Alex), Cassie Fowler (Steven), Reece Fowler; her great-grandchildren: Ivy Fowler, Anni Pasap, Dyllan Lawrence (Rayne), Cody Lawrence, Lennox and Walker Moore, Lyla and Julianna Lott, Thomas, Samuel, and Weston Fowler; one great-great-granddaughter, Kamryn Whitecap; sisters-in-law, Doreen Fowler, Myra Fowler, Jeannine Eisler, plus nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Deer View Lodge for their most caring and compassionate support of Joan and her family over the last four months. Thank you also to the friends that visited, chatted, and spent time with Joan.
A Celebration of Life with lunch to follow will be held on Saturday, February 3 at the Wawota Drop In Centre at 1 p.m.
