Dennis Manford Swallow, 83, of Maryfield, Sask. passed away peacefully on December 25, 2023 at the Southeast Integrated Care Facility in Moosomin.
Dennis, the youngest of five boys, was born on April 9, 1940 to Al and Bertha Swallow on the Franklin Farm located just east of Maryfield.
He grew up on their family farm with his parents and brothers Gordon, Jerald, Bill and Don, where he developed his love of horses.
After high school, Dennis ventured to Moose Jaw to attend trade school and completed his Automotive Service Technician education, thus starting his lifelong career in the automotive service industry.
He was first employed at Johnny’s East End Auto in Regina, and in 1973, along with his brother Gordon, opened Swallow Brothers Garage in Maryfield, Sask. where he eventually retired at the age of 63 in 2003.
In 1963, while attending a dance in Elkhorn, Manitoba, Dennis met the love of his life Marjorie Luanne Moffat. They were married January 9, 1965, and welcomed their firstborn son on July 17, Patrick Dennis. A second son Michael Laurence was born July 30, 1969, and a daughter Deanna Dawn on June 21, 1976.
As a couple they lived in Maryfield, Esterhazy, Regina, Balgonie and then built their home and settled back in Maryfield in 1973.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents Al and Bertha Swallow; brothers Gordon (Arnetta), Jerald (Della), and Bill (June).
He is survived by wife Marjorie; brother Don (Betty); children Patrick (Tanis), Michael (Linda), Deanna (Daniel); grandchildren Jessica, Mikayla, Cloe, Maya, Matthew and Isabella, along with many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held at the Maryfield Cemetery on Thursday, January 4, 2024, with a lunch following at the Maryfield Auditorium.
G.R. Carscadden Funeral Chapels were in care of arrangements.
