With heavy hearts, the family of Mary McDougall of Moosomin, announces her passing on December 31, 2023.
Mary was born in Kendal, Saskatchewan to Anton and Magdalena (Anwender) Reis on September 10, 1930.
She is predeceased by her husband Donald McDougall; her parents; her sister Theresa and husband John Wasser; her sister Barbara and her husband Tony Sebastian and later her husband Tony Selensky; and sister-in-law Bernadette Reis.
Mary is survived by her brother Henry Reis of Regina and numerous nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews.
Mary attended school in Kendal, Saskatchewan followed by Teachers’ College in Hamilton.
Mary wore many caps as a Sister Teacher, wife and caregiver to her mom and to her husband Don’s mom, Edith. Mary taught for 33 years in various schools in Toronto, Stratford, Vancouver, St. Catherines, and Fort Erie.
On August 15, 1983, in St. Catherines, Ontario Mary married Don.
Upon her retirement in 1987 they returned to Don’s home in Moosomin, Saskatchewan. Here, Mary developed many close friendships. She was a strong and active supporter of her extended family, her community and particularly her church.
Mary was a kind, generous and welcoming person whose door was always open for a visit and a meal. She will be greatly missed and remembered fondly by family and friends.
Most recently Mary lived at Cobblestone Care Home in Moosomin where she received excellent care.
Thank you to the staff at Cobblestone and to Mary’s longtime family doctor, Dr. Kerkhoff.
A funeral service will be held in Moosomin on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 11 am at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Moosomin, with Dennis Remot officiating. Interment will be in Moosomin South Cemetery.
Memorial Tributes may be made to St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, in memory of Mary.
