Joyce Hill, beloved wife of the late Ralph Hill, passed away at the Southeast Long-Term Care Center in Moosomin, Saskatchewan, on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at the age of 96.
Joyce was born to John and Annie McKenzie on January 4,1928. She grew up on the farm near the Pipestone Valley and was educated at the Coppice Hill School. Joyce worked for a short time in Calgary and Victoria. She eventually moved back to Moosomin.
On April 23 1955, Joyce married Ralph Hill and resided at the farm north of Red Jacket. They had two sons born to the marriage Brian and Bryce. Joyce also had a daughter, Marion, whom she was reunited with in 1997.
Joyce worked hard on the family farm helping with everything and especially with providing for the entire family. She was always cooking, baking, and gardening.
In 1973 the farm was sold and the family moved to Moosomin. Joyce worked at Mitchell’s Jewelry and later at the Co-op Hardware. She was also involved with the United Church ladies Auxiliary.
She enjoyed visiting with friends, neighbors and relatives over the years.
Ralph passed away in 1993 and Joyce started to travel. She loved to visit her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed many cruises with her friend Roy and also with her daughter, Marion.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband Ralph; daughter Marion Howarth Legge; parents John and Annie McKenzie; father and mother-in-law Alverdo and Margaret Hill; brother Angus (Elva) McKenzie; her sisters Margret (Norman) Sutherland, Bernice (Henning) Larson, Colina (Jack) Meehan; brothers-in-law Wes Hill, Elmer (Tina) Hill, Clarence (Clara) Hill, William (Mary) Hill; sisters-in-law Pearl (Lloyd) Goodman, Marj (Bob) Harrison, and May (Bob) Miller; nieces Joanne Parchman, Donalda Lacey, Audrey Fitzpatrick, and Anita Kendall; and nephews Kevan Hill, Ted Kitchen, Gordon Hand, and Frank Kendall.
She is survived by her sons Brian (Donna) Hill, Bryce (Ann) Hill; son-in-law Tony Tom (Lynne); grandchildren Reid Hill, Carly (Brent) Lucente, Scott Tom, Jordan (Jamie) Tom; great-grandchildren Bowen and Evyn Tom; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Many thanks to all of the staff at the Southeast Integrated Long-Term Care Centre who have provided excellent care to Joyce over the last four years.
A Service of Celebration and Remembrance of Life will be held at G.R. Carscadden Funeral Chapel in Moosomin, Saskatchewan, on February 21, 2024 at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
