Reverend Delta May Kelly passed away in her valley home on February 17, 2024 at the age of 78, surrounded by family, prayer and song.
Delta was born March 27, 1945 in Lumsden Saskatchewan, to Grant and Eileen Blakley of the Bethune district. She was the fourth of eleven children.
The family moved to Tantallon, Saskatchewan in the 1950’s, establishing the Blakley Family Farm that is still there today.
In 1965, Delta moved to Regina for Teacher’s College and went on to teach at Neudorf, Saskatchewan and Millwood, Manitoba. However, her true dream was always to be a farmer’s wife with a large family. She got both when she married Terence George Kelly on July 19, 1968 and moved to the Kelly Family Farm in the Qu’Appelle Valley southeast of Spy Hill, Saskatchewan.
Delta and Terence continued to run the farm where they raised their five sons—Brian, Anthony, Blake, Patrick and Craig—until Terence’s death on December 18, 1995.
Though she briefly lived in the town of Rocanville, Delta continued to live on the farm until her death.
Delta always had a strong faith and relationship with God. She was called to share His message and became locally ordained as an Anglican minister in 2002. Though she followed Anglican traditions, she believed that church denominations did not matter and served both the United and Anglican communities, showing love to people of every faith background and tradition. Through her ministry she taught, counselled, consoled and shared the Lord’s message with the Rocanville, Welwyn, Spy Hill, Wapella and Moosomin communities and beyond.
Delta shared the love of God, not just from the pulpit, but through her music as well. Two of her greatest joys were singing and her family, and she could often be found singing on stage at community concerts and other events accompanied by Terence, the Gough Brothers or her sons.
Along with sharing her talents, Delta shared her heart and love with everyone in the community. Her home was always open to anyone who needed a listening ear or a good story, with a cup of tea ready and waiting.
Delta is survived by her sons Brian (Renee), Anthony (Rosanne), Blake (Tannis), Patrick (Brenda) and Craig (Beth), grandchildren Jessica, Marie, Olivia, Vivian, Schuyler, Parker, Aidan, Megan, Kaleb, and Kathryn, brothers Glenn (Deb), Colin (Charon), Rod (Ginger), and Ben (Deb) Blakley, sisters Shelley (Les) Duke and Audrey (Neil) Marsh, and sisters-in-law Jeanette Blakley, Helen Blakley, and Sheila Brydon-Gibb.
Delta was preceded in death by her husband Terence, brothers Dwight Blakley and David Blakley, sisters Grace Blakley, Mildred Johnson and her husband Louis Johnson.
Her funeral will take place at the Nutrien Community Hall in Rocanville on March 2 at 2 pm with Rt. Rev. Helen Kennedy officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the St. Thomas Memorial Fund with cheques payable to Saskatchewan Gateway Parish, Box 604, Moosomin, Saskatchewan S0G 3N0.
All are welcome to come and celebrate her life with the family.
