With great sadness we announce the loss of our dad and grandpa Leslie (Bill) Fredrick Nelson Taylor who passes away peacefully on January 25 at Yorkton General Hospital. Les was born on June 25, 1933 on the family farm near Welwyn, Sask. to Fred and Hazel Taylor.

Dad grew up on the farm with his sisters Leafa, Frieda and Patricia. He had many stories of his life on the farm with his sisters and friends.

Dad married Velma Barkley from McAuley, Manitoba on February 21, 1958. Mom and dad lived in Moosomin for four years where dad worked for the local Co-op driving fuel truck and then after for Neyedly’s Trucking and A & H Trucking. Brenda and Debbie were born in Moosomin. Mom and dad moved to Esterhazy in 1962 and Kathy was born in 1963. He worked for IMC for over 10 years until he moved to PCS mine where he retired in 1996 after 22 years with PCS.

After mom passed away in 2009, dad continued to live in Esterhazy until he moved to Yorkton in 2010.

Dad loved his life and always had a smile on his face. He was never without a joke to tell. He loved his family and was devoted to them. He loved his music and it was a big part of his life. Whether it was playing in a band and singing or his thousands of records and tapes, he always had music surrounding him. Camping, fishing and playing cards and trips to visit family or friends were some of the things he enjoyed.

He was a die hard Rider fan and one of his last outings was going to the Grey Cup party at Kathy and Mike’s quonset. He was so happy that day to be with his family and friends and to see his Riders win the Grey Cup.

He is survived by his sister Frieda (Norman) Lewis of Killarney, Man., brother-in-law Charlie Clark of Brandon, Man., Bill Sauter of Moose Jaw, his sister-in-law Eileen (Albert) Frazer of Innisfail, Alta., and brother-in-law Murry (Barb) Barkley of Moosomin, Sask. He is also survived by his daughters Brenda (Garry) Herperger, Debbie (Marcel) DeCorby and Kathy (Mike) Sikora; his beautiful granddaughters Samantha and Morgan Sikora and Danielle and Alanna DeCorby; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life was held on Saturday, February 8.

Donations of remembrance can be made in Les Taylor’s name to the Esterhazy Hospital Building Fund.
