Kevin Robert Whelpton was born on November 20, 1967 to Gordon and Doris Whelpton.

He graduated from high school in 1985, went to Briercrest Bible College from 1985-87 and obtained his Bachelor of Commerce degree from Trinity Western University in April 1993.

He moved to B.C. in 1989 where he met the love of his life, Rene. They were married on June 20, 1992. Melissa was born on July 31, 1998. After Melissa was born he decided, and convinced Rene, that on a farm in a small town was the best place to raise a family and he knew just the place! So they moved back to the family farm in February 1998, with Country Canada filming the whole event and first farming season. Stephen was born on August 6, 1998 and Mark on April 3, 2000.

He dedicated his life to loving and serving God at an early age and was baptized in his teen years. His desire was to make his faith evident in every part of his life.

He was a devoted husband and father. His family was the joy of his life. He loved his wife with all his heart and always made her feel loved, appreciated and special. He was very proud of his kids and who they were growing up to be. He enjoyed being involved in his kids’ activities-4-H for Melissa and many sports for Stephen and Mark (assistant hockey coach, baseball umpire, football helper). He tried to attend as many events and performances as possible because he loved his kids. Family was important and we took many driving trips to see our extended family in Alberta and B.C.

Kevin loved farming but construction and renovation work helped to make ends meet. He enjoyed doing the renovation jobs with his dad. He treated his clients with respect and as friends. A dream of his was to be independently wealthy and do free renovation work for people who couldn’t afford it.

He held several positions in Moosomin Baptist Church over the years-property committee member, board chairperson, leader of a home group Bible study. He was a self-motivated person who, when he saw something that needed fixing, just did it. He helped Rene run the Tweeners program for two years and loved being involved in the youth group by opening our home to the kids and their events.

He was involved at Katepwa Lake Camp (formerly Katepwa Baptist Kamp) as a camper, a kitchen helper and as a board member. He loved camp very much and thought that when we retired we could work at camp for free.

He enjoyed working at the community theatre. He liked to meet the community and enjoyed teasing all the kids as they came through the lineup.

He was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in February 2013 and fought hard for 14 months to win the battle over it. He spent this battle time living and having a positive attitude. He continued to farm, took vacations with his family and wife, and was as involved in his kids’ lives and activities, church, and community as much as was possible for him. He was ready to meet his God and was not afraid to die. He was saddened for us that he would be missing out on so many future events with us.

He is survived by his loving wife, Rene and their three children Melissa, Stephen and Mark; his mother, Doris: his brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Hayley and their children Carissa-Lynn and Blair Stretch, Colton, Caitlin and AJ and his grandniece Selah.
