Mom was born August 8, 1916, the middle child of seven, to Gertrude (Rogers) and James Farquhar. She was born in her home just north of Fairlight and often shared fond memories of a happy childhood.

She loved to take a drive in the country and visit the land where she was born.
On December 20, 1941 she married Edgar Lewis (predeceased 1992) and moved to the Rosedale district.

They raised four children on the farm: Keith (predeceased) (Bertha), Bernice, Glennis, and Patricia (Mark Pickard). She then welcomed six grandchildren: Andrea (Ryan), Brendan (Jodi), Leticia, Courtney, Vanessa, Tricia and their families. Over the last nine years she had a wonderful time getting to know-and spending time in her garden with-three great-grandsons: Rio, Braiden and Brody. They each had their own row of carrots. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her great joy.

She is also survived by her brother Roy (RoseMarie) Farquhar of Salmon Arm, sister-in-law Barb Farquhar of Kamloops, and numerous nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.

Mom was a true pioneer. She loved farming and the land. She always reminded us, "It’s not dirt, it’s soil!" She tended her own garden in her yard until the end. Her gardens of flowers, fruits and vegetables were her pride and joy, and even won prizes. She loved animals-always having a pet cow, horse, cat or dog on the farm.

She also spent many hours knitting afghans which she enjoyed giving to family and friends. She was an excellent cook and her pies and breads were beyond compare. Nothing beat grandma’s famous brownie cake!

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Jim and his family for your ongoing kindness over the years; to Nora for your calls "checking up on her" and the special deliveries; and to Debbie and Dale next door for clearing the snow and mowing the grass.

We also say thank you to all of the home care staff-she very much enjoyed your "little visits." Mom’s wish was to stay in her home and each of you helped to make this happen. And finally a thank you to the entire staff at the South East Integrated Care Centre who provided such kind, loving and compassionate care for Mom and her family in her final days.

A word of advice from grandma to her grandchildren: "Work hard and enjoy life." Good advice for all to live by.

If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Fairmede United Church Restoration Fund, Box 440, Wawota, Sask. S0G 5A0. And if anyone so wishes, please plant a purple petunia in her memory as this was her favorite flower.

Funeral service will be held at Bethel United Church, Moosomin on Monday, February 2, 2015 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Joan Rennie-Laing officiating. Interment will be in Fairmede cemetery.
