Peter Thomas Hanson was born June 28, 1923 on the family homestead in the Val Marie area of Saskatchewan and was educated in a convent in Val Marie.

He farmed with his parents in that area until they all moved to Moosomin where they farmed south of the town. In the early years of farming, Peter traveled to Saskatoon to take a welding course.

There he met Leona Longpre and after several months of corresponding through the mail, they were married at St. Paul's Cathedral in Saskatoon in November of 1953. Peter and Leona continued to live on the farm, where they raised their six children, until his retirement in 1995.

They then moved into Moosomin, in a house on Gertie Street. After Leona's passing in 1996, Peter moved to the Knotty Pine Residence, a private care home in Broadview, then closer to home in Maryfield and eventually to the long term care facility in the South East Integrated Care Centre in Moosomin. There he peacefully passed away on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013 surrounded by his family.

Peter will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his children Rob (Colleen nee Moffat), Deb (Ted Toma), Polly (Tony Palombo), Tom (Leanne Fry), Denise (Lorne Langford), Mona (Gary Windrim), his 12 grandchildren and his six great-grandchildren.

Peter was predeceased by his beloved wife Leona, his parents Michael and Michaelina and his sisters, Ann and Mary (Goodwin).

A private funeral mass was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Moosomin with Fr. Dennis Remot as celebrant. Interment will be held at the North cemetery in Moosomin at a later date.
