Eliza Mae passed away at the Birtle Personal Care Home in Birtle, Manitoba, on Saturday, July 25, 2015, in her 103rd year. The funeral service was held on Saturday, August 1, at the Birtle United Church, with interment following in the McAuley cemetery. Marilyn Warkentine officiated.

Mae was born on May 19, 1913 on the farm in the RM of Archie. She took all her schooling at Hills Green School and in Virden. She worked in Brandon for a while and later her and her lifelong friend Alice left for Toronto, Ontario. There she worked in the war plants and later in the manufacturing industry.

Mae married Grant Henderson who passed away very suddenly after a year and a half of marriage. Two days after her retirement she packed her bags and two cats and drove to McAuley. She lived there for a few years and then in 1996 moved to Birtle where she was one of the first residents in Lions Corner.

Mae loved dancing, playing cards and travelling. She and her niece Tracy Peacock took many cruises and train trips. She spent many years in the personal care home and received excellent care.

She is survived by her sister Laura MacKay, cousin Lily Bowles, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband Grant, brothers Jim and Allistar Ewing, sisters Helen Peacock and Grace Hauk.
