Gerald Arthur Heal passed away peacefully with family and friends by his side on November 12, 2015 at the Portage District Hospital in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba at the age of 85.

Gerald was born on July 6, 1930, the second son of Harold Heal and Mary (May) Jessie McAdoo in Ryerson, Saskatchewan.

He was predeceased by his parents Harold and May; sister Phyllis; brothers Bill and Jim; and his partner Margaret Spriggs.

Gerald will be sadly missed by his sisters Alice (Elmer) and Winnie; his brothers Ron (Muriel), Hugh (Pat), Cecil (Suschilla), and Stan (Maureen); sister-in-law Betty (Jim) Kyle; and numerous nieces and nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins and friends.

Gerald was raised and grew up on the family farm in the Ryerson District, southwest of Maryfield and after leaving school he attended at the School of Agriculture in Saskatoon for two winters and then in his early 20s he assumed management of the home farm, which, with a younger brother Hugh, remained in operation in the family until it was sold in 1996.

In the 1970s he took up residence in Portage La Prairie, commuting to the farm during the busy crop seasons. While living in Portage he kept active enjoying golf, curling and restoring damaged vehicles and traveling about in the motorhome. He believed in helping those that he could and made a difference in many lives.

A graveside service took place on Friday, November 20, 2015 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Columbarium and following the service family and friends gathered at the McKenzie Portage Funeral Home to celebrate Gerald’s life.
